Where to stay in Da Nang first time

The best areas to stay in Da Nang first time are My Khe Beach, Ba Na Hill, Son Tra Peninsula, Hoi An Ancient City, Dragon Bridge and Han River, and Marble Mountains.

This is an overwhelming answer, so I will try to simplify it for you.

For the majority of the tourists, My Khe Beach is the perfect area in Da Nang, as you have access to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, as well as many of the city’s amenities.

As it also attracts many tourists, people always seek alternatives, and there are a few worth considering.

Ba Na Hill is a mountain resort complex on top of the mountain that offers beautiful views, amusement parks, French colonial-style architecture, and the famous Golden Bridge.

However, accommodation options are limited.

Those seeking an adventurous experience should stay in Son Tra Peninsula, where you have access to forests and panoramic views, which are ideal for hiking and wildlife viewing.

It’s also possible to stay in Hoi An’s Ancient Town, which is a must-visit in Vietnam in the first place.

As Da Nang is located nearby, you can easily combine these two areas during your visit, except you don’t have access to the beach.

When you want to stay centrally in the city itself, stay around the Dragon Bridge and Han River.

You have great access to the comforts of the city and you have nice views on this famous bridge, as well as on the river.

Another good option is Marble Mountains, which is located south of the city center and you have good access to the main attractions as well as plenty of affordable accommodation options to choose from.

Where to stay in Da Nang with family

The best areas to stay in Da Nang with family are My Khe Beach, Ba Na Hill, and Son Tra Peninsula.

Basically, all six areas that we recommend in this article are suitable for families, but these three mentioned parts of Da Nang are more convenient than the others.

When travelling with kids, you want to have good access to family-friendly activities.

My Khe Beach is the ideal area when travelling with kids as you have direct access to the beach.

Besides, you’re centrally located and have access to plenty of international restaurants and other kid-friendly amenities.

Ba Na Hill is located on top of a hill where you can find several kid-friendly venues, including theme parks.

Son Tra Peninsula is a great option for families who want to combine sightseeing with some adventurous activities in nature.

That being said, the other three recommended areas in this article are also suitable for families, especially when you prioritize accessibility.

Where to stay in Da Nang for backpackers

The best areas to stay in Da Nang are Hoi An Ancient Town and My Khe Beach.

Hoi An Ancient Town is by far the most popular area among backpackers who visit this region.

That’s because it’s an area where you can find plenty of affordable accommodations and a proper nightlife scene, all while you’re located centrally with access to many highlights of Vietnam.

It also attracts a lot of backpackers, making it incredibly easy to meet fellow travellers and make plans together to further explore the country.

If you do want to stay closer to Da Nang, the best option is My Khe Beach

Although there are many upscale hotels here, you do find backpackers here as well and the area is also home to several hostels.

You also find some nightlife here, but the nightlife scene in Hoi An is much better.

What My Khe Beach offers more than Hoi An Ancient Town is access to one of the most beautiful beaches in Southeast Asia.

An alternative is Marble Mountains, which is located south of My Khe Beach.

It’s an area where you have good access to major attractions and you do find plenty of affordable accommodations here.

Except, it’s not as popular as Hoi An Ancient Town and My Khe Beach.

Where to stay in Da Nang for couples

The best areas to stay in Da Nang for couples are My Khe Beach, Ba Na Hill, Dragon Bridge and Han River, and Son Tra Peninsula.

My Khe Beach is a bustling area with upscale hotels with direct access to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

You can easily find a great hotel with stunning panoramic views while staying in the heart of Da Nang.

Just keep in mind that this usually comes with a premium price tag.

While more known for its family-friendly attractions, Ba Na Hill also offers romantic experiences for couples.

Take a cable car ride together and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.

Explore the French village replica hand in hand, or have a romantic meal at one of the mountaintop restaurants.

When it comes to convenience, consider staying around the Darong Bridge and Han River.

Here, you stay centrally and have beautiful riverside views.

There are many restaurants here that offer quite some romantic experiences.

For couples seeking adventure and natural beauty, Son Tra Peninsula offers secluded beaches, lush forests, and stunning viewpoints.

You can easily rent a motorbike and explore the winding roads together, or hike to the top of Monkey Mountain.

Where to stay in Da Nang for nightlife

The best areas to stay in Da Nang for nightlife are My Khe Beach, Darong Bridge and Han River, and Hoi An’s Ancient Town.

One of the best nightlife areas in Da Nang is around My Khe Beach where you can find several beach bars and clubs that offer (beach) parties right by the ocean.

Another great option is Darong Bridge and Han River, where you can find Bach Dang Street.

This street is home to many bars, cafes and restaurants and is an excellent area for riverside dining and grabbing a few cold ones afterward.

Along the coastline, you can find several rooftop bars and lounges that offer panoramic views of the city as well as the coastline.

While not part of Da Nang, a great option nearby is Hoi An’s Ancient Town, a popular destination among backpackers that offers a great nightlife scene

1. My Khe Beach

My Khe Beach is one of the most-desired areas among tourists as it’s considered one of the top attractions in Da Nang.

The beach is among the most beautiful in the world and offers white sand, crystal-clear waters, and a beautiful backdrop of coconut palm trees.

It’s exactly how you imagine a tropical holiday in the Far East.

Young and old can enjoy the shallow waters and many water sports activities can be done here.

My Khe Beach is conveniently located in the heart of Da Nang, just a short drive from the city center and easily accessible.

Its proximity to major hotels, resorts, and amenities makes it also an incredibly convenient destination.

As it’s such a popular area, you can find a ton of cool restaurants, and beachside cafes, but also convenient amenities such as showers and restrooms at the beach.

In other words, it’s the perfect beachfront area of Da Nang.

And at the end of the day, you can witness breathtaking sunsets.

After sunset, you can enjoy good nightlife on My Khe Beach too, with beachfront bars and nightclubs nearby.

If you’re not into that, you can always explore some of the local markets that are located towards the city center.

So not only during the day you will be entertained but in the evening, there are plenty of cool things to discover too!

Is there anything not to like about this area?

Being such a popular area, it attracts a lot of crowds.

You can stay further south, in areas like Marble Mountains, where it’s not as crowded, but those areas have fewer amenities.

Also, the area is commercialized, which is common in popular touristy areas.

For the majority of the tourists, My Khe Beach is the ideal area.

But there are certainly some alternative areas, which I will discuss in the next paragraphs, that might match your preferences even more!

Some of the best hotels to stay in Da Nang in this particular area are listed below:

Agoda is part of Booking.com, and is the best option for booking a hotel in Asia. They often offer significantly cheaper options compared to their competitors, including Booking.com. You’ll get the same service that you are used to at Booking.com, but you simply pay less.

2. Ba Na Hill

Ba Na Hill is nestled in the Truong Son Mountains.

You can access the Ba Na Hill via one of the longest cable car systems in the world and, of course, you will have some of the most stunning views you can possibly think of.

Once you reach the top, you have access to several attractions.

One of those attractions is the Golden Bridge, a stunning architectural marvel that appears to be held up by two giant stone hands.

When visiting Da Nang, you will visit this attraction no matter what, as it’s so iconic.

But the area is also home to a charming French village replica with cobblestone streets, European-style architecture, and colorful flower gardens.

There are also several amusement parks and attractions in Ba Na Hill, including Fantasy Park with its arcade games, indoor rides, and entertainment zones.

That automatically makes Ba Na Hill a superb area for families.

So, what’s not to like about this unique area?

First of all, it’s located about 25 kilometers from the city center and the road that leads to the top is quite a long ride.

Secondly, there aren’t many accommodation options available on Ba Na Hill.

Lastly, Ba Na Hill can be expensive, with entrance fees, cable car tickets, and additional charges for attractions, food, and souvenirs adding up quickly.

But in return, you’re staying in one of the most unique areas in Da Nang and especially when travelling with kids, you will have an amazing time!

3. Son Tra Peninsula

Son Tra Peninsula is the best alternative to My Khe Beach.

This area is known for its stunning natural beauty where you have access to forests, winding roads, and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the coastline.

At the heart of Son Tra Peninsula is Monkey Mountain, named for the troops of monkeys that inhabit the area.

You can hike or drive with a motorbike through the trails where you can explore the flora and fauna along the way.

Nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers will definitely appreciate a stay in this area.

Son Tra Peninsula is home to the Linh Ung Pagoda, a majestic Buddhist temple complex known for its towering statue of the Lady Buddha (Guanyin).

When exploring this area by motorbike, you will encounter several secluded beaches, such as Bai But and Bai Rang.

If you’re not into nightlife and want to stay in a somewhat off-the-beaten-path area, Son Tra Peninsula will not disappoint.

Just keep in mind that you have limited access to public transport.

As you’re located about 10 kilometers northeast of Da Nang city center, renting a motorbike is basically required.

That automatically means that you simply have fewer facilities, especially compared to the tourist areas.

Don’t expect an abundance of restaurants and shops.

But if you’re up for an adventure while surrounded by beautiful nature, Son Tra Peninsula is the area you’re looking for!

4. Hoi An Ancient Town

Although not located directly in Da Nang, Hoi An Ancient Town is a must-visit destination in Vietnam and you can easily combine these two areas during your travel.

First of all, Hoi An Ancient Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its exceptionally well-preserved architecture.

In the evening, the streets are illuminated by thousands of colorful lanterns.

You can explore its famous food scene which is influenced by the Chinese and Europeans.

Every 14th day of the lunar month, the Hoi An Lantern Festival is held here.

And you have access to a proper nightlife scene.

So, saying that Hoi An Ancient Town is bustling is a bit of an understatement, and because of that, I suggest you consider staying here.

It will take you about 45 minutes to reach My Khe Beach from Hoi An Ancient Town.

Now, Da Nang has more to offer than its stunning beach.

Perhaps you can combine Hoi An Ancient Town with a night in Son Tra Peninsula (the previously recommended area) where you can explore Monkey Mountain and its wildlife.

The downside, of course, if you stay in Hoi An Ancient Town, is that you don’t have all the time to fully discover Da Nang.

So, it’s highly recommended to make a combination between two areas.

If you’re planning to stay in Hoi An instead, make sure to read the article about Where to stay in Hoi An first time.

5. Dragon Bridge and Han River

So far, every area that I recommend is located outside of Da Nang, except for My Khe Beach.

This area is located near My Khe Beach.

Most tourists prefer to stay closer to the beach, so the Dragon Bridge & the Han River area may not be traditional accommodation hubs but still are convenient areas to stay in.

First of all, you have great access and views of iconic landmarks.

The Dragon Bridge is arguably Da Nang’s most iconic landmark, but you also have great views of the Han River.

Secondly, you’re located centrally with great access to other top attractions, including My Khe Beach, Marble Mountains, Son Tra Peninsula, and Hoi An Ancient Town.

Thirdly, there is plenty of nightlife to discover nearby, from restaurants and night markets to riverfront bars and cafes.

Lastly, as most travellers tend to stay closer to the beach and due to popularity, the hotel prices are significantly higher, this area offers accommodation options with more value for your bucks.

Just keep in mind that you don’t have direct access to the beach and that the views are not as good as My Khe Beach.

But it sure is a convenient and central area!

6. Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son)

Marble Mountains is located in the southern parts of the city and is known for its natural beauty, caves, pagodas, and marble carving workshops.

It’s one of the main attractions in Da Nang

Around this area, you can find many great accommodations, in all budget classes.

And what makes this area different from the rest is that it offers a far quieter and laid-back atmosphere compared to areas like My Khe Beach.

You also have great access to the beach, including the beautiful Non Nuoc Beach.

If you’re looking for an upscale experience, you can find several luxury resorts close to the coastline that come with top-notch facilities, including golf courses.

But when travelling on a budget, you won’t be disappointed either as there are many hostels and guesthouses in the area as well.

Just keep in mind that this area is much quieter and offers far fewer dining and entertainment options compared to the more popular areas.

That also means that you have limited access to public transport.

So why choose Marble Mountains?

It’s the ideal area for those seeking a quieter experience with good access to the beach.
